12.15.10 -- DG-Spec/TRD/Scion helps Greg Shaffer contribute to World Challenge TC Manufacturer Championship!
Thanks to the 2010 late season contract that Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes owner, Greg Shaffer, got with the TRD / Scion Factory Team, Shaffer is able to proudly share a Team Championship Victory with DG-Spec Scion Factory Team in the 2010 World Challenge Touring Car Championship presented by: Optima Batteries, Racekeeper Data Systems, Special Ops Watch Co. and Versus Channel Network...

Shaffer was added to the team's roster just weeks out for the last Double-Header at Virginia International Raceway (Alton, VA) for the TRD, DG-Spec, Scion effort this past October.

Shaffer got to share in the team's manufacturer overall points victory that Saturday afternoon, after Race#1, where the DG-Spec team of Points Champion Robert Stout and Greg Shaffer, finishing 2nd/4th respectively, were declared the outright winner of the Manufacturer's Team Championship.

Many thanks go out to Dan Gardner (DG-Spec team principle) for the phonecall to join forces at Shaffer's home track of VIR to help the team try and clench the championship points for Scion/TRD coming into the 2nd to last of the final rounds of World Challenge Touring Car for 2010.

2011 racing plans are still pending for Shaffer as he takes a little time off during the off-season to set aim on future goals for the upcoming race season...

10.21.10 -- Greg Shaffer contracted with Toyota Racing Development for VIR World Challenge Race in September, 20
TORRANCE, CA - In the midst of another historic season, the DG-Spec World Challenge Scion team has added experienced driver Greg Shaffer to its already impressive roster of drivers. Shaffer will pilot the number 36 DG-Spec Scion tC Touring Car at rounds 10 and 11 at Virginia International Raceway in just a couple of weeks. Shaffer most recently drove the Irish Mike’s VW Jettas in World Challenge and Grand-Am competition.

Greg Shaffer will drive the No. 36 Scion at VIR. “We’re all really excited to have Greg on board,” said team owner Dan Gardner. “He was quite fast at Mosport in the Jetta, and we think he’ll take well to our Scion, which is similar in some ways.

With Shaffer at the wheel, the number 36 car will be looking to capture more team points. The car currently sits in third place, a stone’s throw away from the second place Mazda.

“I can’t wait to drive the DG-Spec Scion,” said Shaffer. “They’re obviously the cars to beat in Touring Car this year, and it will be exciting to see what they’re all about. VIR is my home track, so I’m looking to defend my turf here in Virginia. It’s exciting to be able to jump in mid-season and still contribute toward the team championship. I’m just pumped to be with the team for this event.”

08.05.10 -- "Tough Times in Toronto" - World Challenge Touring Car Race Update
07-20-2010: Round 7 of the World Challenge Touring Car Series was raced in the downtown streets of Toronto, Canada and Greg Shaffer got a last minute phone call from the new team owner of the Irish Mikes VWs to make the trip north of the border a few days before the July 15-17th race date.

This would be Greg Shaffer's first 'Street Race', but the car would be familiar as Greg had just raced this VW at Mosport International Raceway in Canada the previous month... still, this was a street circuit, and it was going to be very different than the typical road course circuit that Shaffer had always been familiar with in the past. The difference you ask? Easy, (well not really EASY!), a 'Street Race' setup is one where the race series strikes a deal w/ a major city in North America to come in and transform normal roads into a full-blown racetrack over the course of a week.... the 'not so easy' part as a race driver, is that there is NO ROOM FOR ERROR, as the circuit that is constructed is lined 100% w/ Jersey Barriers to mark the boundaries for the race course. This means that if you run a little wide, BAM, you are going to be into one of these walls!!

Friday practice went very well and although slightly off pace, Shaffer found his way into a very respectible 5th qualifying position during the Sat. morning qualifier. Since World Challenge was the opening act for Indy Racing League, the drivers knew there was going to be some heavy tire debris all over the course and it was not going to be a good thing to get into those marbles they were laying down w/ their 800+ horsepower engines!

Sat. afternoon, the race start was a good one for Greg as he started to work through the opening laps... on lap 7, the 2 cars just in front of him got into each other in a big way and allowed Shaffer to move into 3rd position! Things were looking very bright until Patrick Lindsey was coming through Touring Car traffic in his Porsche GT3 - GT - car and made a very bold move to the inside of Shaffer coming onto the front straight! There was nowhere for Shaffer to go and BAM! - straight into the wall at a little over 100mph! The race was over for Greg before it was really starting to look as if things were going his way....

Shaffer was ok after the impact w/ just a possible stress-fracture to his right foot, but wishes things would have played out a bit different. All in all, it was a successful outing to gain the experience of a Street Style circuit where you have to learn to drive flat-out around blind corners every single turn during the run...

VIR is coming up on Sept 10-12 and that is Shaffer's home track and he WILL be there, just not sure what car he will pilot just yet... stay tuned as Shaffer is ready to leave absolutely NOTHING on the table at his home race in World Challenge!!

05.23.10 -- 05/22/10: World Challenge Touring Car -Saturday Race Report- Mosport, Canada
05/22/10: Mosport International Raceway - Saturday's qualifying went really well for Greg Shaffer, driving the #49 VW Jetta GLi Turbo for Irish Mike's Racing based in Orlando, FL.

Shaffer posted up a qualifying time good enough to earn P3 for the start of the race with teammate, Chip Herr, just 1 tenth of a second behind and P2 car of Lepper just 1 tenth of a second ahead.

Race start was a little hairy as the #49 of Greg Shaffer, #36 Tom Lepper and the RX-8 of Eric Myer raced 3 wide into turn 1! (3 wide into turn 1 at Mosport does NOT work!) Myer shot the gap in the middle of Shaffer and Lepper and Myer's RX-8 made contact with Greg's left rear quarter panel and then bounced off Lepper's car... Greg continued to stay under full throttle and made it out alive and in P2 coming into turn 2! Shaffer continued to run solid in P2 for about 12 laps chasing down the race leader #18 Robert Stout. Shaffer ended up over-shooting turn 3 brake zone just a touch and had to take 2 wheels off in the grass which was just enough for teammate, Chip Herr, and Lepper get by. Shaffer struggled to get back in the groove after making the mistake and started to overdrive the #49 VW too much and it led to another off in turn 2, so much that he had to make a quick stop in the pits to get about 5lbs of dirt removed from the rear wheels to get them back in round! (Shaffer had figured he had flat-spotted several tires during the slide and had no choice to make a visit to pit lane, the car was driving so horrible under power).

Teammate Chip Herr managed to get around the #36 Lepper and started applying pressure to #18 Stout and got him to make a mistake.. Chip went on to taste SWEET VICTORY in the final laps in the Irish Mike's #50 VW!!!

Although Shaffer was clearly dismal about the end result of his drive after a small mishap, he's got his sights set clearly on the Sunday race at hand for round #2 of the weekend.

04.06.10 -- March '10: Success at VIR NASA German Touring Series!
Alton, VA: March 24-27th weekend was round #2 of the German Touring Series hosted by N.A.S.A. Mid Atlantic Region at the famed Virginia International Raceway.

This race was to feature Trevor Parmer, Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes team driver, in his 2nd season of wheel-to-wheel competition. Trevor has really started to sharpen his skills and carry over valuable race notes from last season's high note of winning his first ever race in October of '09. Warm weather and sunshine prevailed throughout Friday and Saturday as Trevor was able to post up his personal best, fast lap, behind the wheel of team owner Greg Shaffer's #06 BMW 325i. Off-season development by the Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes team in front aero downforce has proven to make a former race winning BMW even better for '10! A solid qualifying time and a good pace during the race on Saturday netted Trevor a 2nd place finish! Sunday, rain moved into the area and forced a last minute decision by Greg Shaffer to move over to the intermediate tire setup and it was the right call! However, the rain intensified too hard during the course of the race and the car was starting to get a bit twitchy under full power on the back straights.. Trevor made the right call and decided it would be best to pull into the pits and park it.... a wise call! Congrats to Trevor for a great drive throughout the weekend and picking up another solid finish during the event. The competition has never been closer this season and more and more entrants are finding their way into this great touring car series. Special thanks go to the #06 car cheif of Howie Dunbrack and all the other team members, including Jason Zook (MAM's service manager), who made it all happen during the weekend!

Race team owner and principle of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes' Greg Shaffer has just signed a deal w/ a Mazda factory-backed team to enter back into Grand-Am Road Race Series. Greg's first race will be April 8th-11th at Barber Motorsports Park along w/ IRL and Rolex Series GT and DP cars. This race is slated to be televised on SPEED TV, so please be sure to keep an eye for it.. Grand-Am is a top tier professional series and Greg will be co-driving with VA native, Ric Bushey, 2009's GT3 National Champion in SCCA Nationals... Greg and Ric co-drove together back in 2004-2005 in a few endurance races and they are looking forward to teaming back up together again to do battle in one of the most competative touring car series in all of North America! More news to come over the next month....

10.18.09 -- M.A. Motorwerkes: 2 Wins Cap the 2009 Season at VIR!!
October 18th, 2009: Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes finishes on top for the final race in the German Touring Series w/ NASA Mid Atlantic Region!

Special weekend indeed, as team owner Greg Shaffer, owner of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes in Harrisonburg, VA, scored his first 'team owner' win, but also capped off the weekend with a win of his own during the 1 hour Sunday sprint race in the German Touring Series at Virginia International Raceway! Team driver, Trevor Parmer, scored his first win of his rookie season in the German Touring Series and is likely to return in 2010 for more action behind the wheel of the #06 BMW.

Although Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes only campaigned a limitied schedule in 2009, they are sure to be back in full swing for 2010 to compete for the championship! Shaffer's team racked up serious points despite a few off-weekends during the season. Nathan Beck, Staunton, VA finished up the 2009 season with a very strong qualifying position during the VIR race in October and will return back behind the wheel of his VW R32 for 2010.

Special thanks to crew chief Cory Bradburn and other hands on the cars of Howie Dunbrack, Paul Hanson, Scott Hughes, Jason Zook and Brian Bass! Thanks to all of our sponsors for the 2009 season and racing action starts again in Feb. of 2010! Stay tuned.....

08.29.09 -- German Touring Series - Top Podium Step: Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes!
July 24th-26th / VIR - Alton, VA: Greg Shaffer and his Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes team walks away again with another top spot on the podium!

Very hot ambient temperatures made for a very intense mental focus on the job at hand. Shaffer battled heavy with Jeff Emanualson in his ///M Coupe and a few Porsche 911's before coming out on top at the end of the race.

Special thanks once again to the excellent race support crew including: Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack, Paul Hanson, Brian Bass. Next race slated for August 23rd, stay tuned.

06.27.09 -- NASA Hyperfest Summit Point June 19-21 Nets 2 Victories!!
June 25th, 2009: Greg Shaffer, owner of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes in Harrisonburg, VA was very busy doing 'double duty' in the #06 and #07 BMWs during the 9th Annual Hyperfest Mid Atlantic NASA Series June event in 2009.

Greg Shaffer piloted the #06 GTS-2 BMW 325i on his way to 2 victories during the weekend while picking up Pole Position in the #07 GTS-3 BMW M3 during the weekend as well to finish 2nd and 4th respectively on Sat/Sun.

Team Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes / VBD Graphics.com grabbed top honors on Sat and Sunday in the German Touring Series in the #06 GTS-2 car and lost out on the 1st place honors of the Saturday race of GTS-3 battle in the #07 ///M Powered BMW by a tight margin of "1 one-hundreth of a second" to Eric Wong in his ///M powered BMW during the chaotic conclusion of the Sat sprint race!

Special thanks to crew on hand of Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack, Paul Hansen, Brian Bass, Anthony Nichols and a few others who provided stellar support during the weekend!

04.15.09 -- Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes Takes 2 Wins, 3 Podiums at VIR BMW Series Premier!
Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes team owner and driver, Greg Shaffer, picked up '2' 1st place finishes and 3 podiums overall for the triple race weekend this past week at VIR in the BMW Series Premier Race!

After a very late arrival of the teams fresh Rebello Racing powerplant, the crew of Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack, Jason Zook, Paul Hansen and Brian Bass worked into the wee hours of the morning to get the #01 BMW buttoned up and ready for the BMW series premier race on April 9-12 at Virginia International Raceway.

After chasing a few gremlins during the Thursday test/tune and getting the suspension dialed in w/ the help of World Challenge driver, James Clay, Greg was able to throw down a lightening-fast laptime during the weekend of 2:03.8 which could be a new D-Modified track record!

"We missed our setup a little for Friday's race and finished 3rd, but once we got it dialed in, we set the pace to beat the rest of the weekend and destroyed our competition!"

Special thanks to Bimmerworld, a very talented crew and for Greg's wife Annie and 3 year old daughter, Rennie, for making the Easter trip down to VIR to watch the win!!

03.31.09 -- Success at VIR March '09 Race! 2 Podiums + 1 Pole!
March 27-29, 2009 Alton, VA

With the 2009 race season underway, Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes / VBD Graphics team driver, Trevor Parmer of Harrisonburg, VA, raced the famed VIR circuit in the BMW #06 GTS-2 (German Touring Series) class in Mid Atllantic N.A.S.A. series.

Despite the rain factor at VIR during Friday and Saturday, Trevor was able to complete his rookie school and rack up a very respectable 3rd place finish during Saturday's race and put the #06 BMW on pole for the Sunday qualifier to finish 2nd by the end of the race!

MAM / VBD team and car owner, Greg Shaffer, was very pleased with the composure of his new driver and had this to say: "Trevor is a solid driver and made the best of the rainy days that we faced... not only did he finish towards the front each day, but he scored pole position on Sunday's qualifier! Tough variables that were thrown at Trevor all weekend and he held it together like a champ."

During the Sunday race, a small mechanical issue occured and the #06 BMW had to make a trip down pit lane. MAM / VBD tech, Jason Zook, made a quick fix and got Trevor back out on the lead lap.

Special thanks from Trevor, not only to the team of race mechanics, but for his family and friends who made the trip down to watch the racing action over the weekend.

Next N.A.S.A race is held at Summit Point Raceway on April 25-26th where MAM / VBD team driver, Nathan Beck, of Staunton, VA will pilot the #07 BMW M3 in the highly contested GTS-3 Class.

BMW Series action will be at VIR for the North American premier points race on April 10-12th where Greg Shaffer will get back behind the wheel to compete again for the 2009 N.A. championship.

12.23.08 -- M.A.M. Owner, Greg Shaffer, Finishes - 2nd - in North American Points for 2008 BMW Championship!
Update: After a very hard run for the D-Modified N.A. Championship in BMW CCA Racing Series, Greg Shaffer, owner of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes, pulls up 1 POINT SHY of earing the marque of North American Champion!
If anyone followed our season in 2008, you would know that the team was sitting comfortable in the #1 position until very late in the season when trouble struck at the last 2 races at Watkins Glen Intern'l Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park where the team suffered from heavy impacts forcing a struggle to remain on top.
The team would like to thank our sponsors of: Bimmerworld, UUC Motorwerkes, VBD Graphics and many others along the way and NONE of this would be possible without the 'Ultimate' Crew of Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack, Paul Hansen and Brian Bass who worked endless nights to make this BMW the race machine it really is today!
The team is currently underway this winter with further engine development and will be ready to go come late February in 2009 to start competition again for the championship starting at Carolina Motorsports Park!
Thanks to everyone for your support and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

11.27.08 -- Race Report: Barber BMW Series / Championship at Stake!
November 23rd, 2008 Race Report:

Well... Racing is Racing and politics are flying after a very controversial race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL after the November 15th race in the BMW Series sponsored by Tire Rack.com.
After coming into our final BMW race of the 2008 season, Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes team owner Greg Shaffer was sitting in 1st place position in the North American Points chase.
This was the first time the team had visited Barber and since there was no test/tune day on Friday, they had to get down to business quickly on Saturday morning...
Saturday practice and qualifying went pretty smooth and the team was able to post a 2nd place finish during the 90 minute enduro on Saturday.
However, trouble struck early on Sunday morning's qualifier as the track temp. was a mere 28* degrees and the team opted to switch to a "slick" racing compound... cold tires and a freezing cold track sent Greg Shaffer's E36 BMW spinning violently into the metal Armco barrier on the opening lap of the qualifier! The team worked flawlessly to restore the BMW back to racing spec. for the start of the 1st sprint race on Sun. before lunch. Since the team had no qualifying time due to the incident, they were forced to start at the back of the pack.
Team MAM/VBD clawed their way to a 4th place finish during the 1st sprint and then finished 3rd in class on the 2nd sprint on Sunday afternoon. There was a very controversial move by a World Challenge driver running in 1st place position on the last lap when he gave a 'point by' to our closest points competitor on the last lap to hand over the 1st place points.
While Team MAM/VBD still remains, currently, in 1st place in points, there is still one more race to unfold for the season finale at Roebling Road in Savannah, GA. The team will sit tight and figure out at the end of December 15th weekend as to whether they will get the North American Championship Title for 2008! Stay Tuned and video is being posted on "motorsports" page from Barber.

10.04.08 -- BMW Oktoberfest at the Glen RACE Report: Rainy Days and Bad Luck Strike
10/02/08: Going in to, what was supposed to be, the final race for Team Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes / VBD Graphics proved to be certain in motorsport that you can never be to complacent! Driver Greg Shaffer, owner of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes, was sitting in1st place for the 2008 North American BMW Series points race before entering the famed Oktoberfest race at Watkins Glen International Raceway. After a very successful testing day on Thursday in the dry and throwing down the, overall, 3rd fastest lap time during the Friday race practice, trouble struck! Friday's afternoon qualifier was a very wet and foggy one! After finding good grip during the opening laps of the qualifier, Greg lost his coordinates in the fogged-in "chute" area of turn 5. Shaffer said "after we were starting to ramp up speed and find grip around the outside line of the track, i went from one lap to the next only to find that Turn 5 was completely socked in with fog and got a little too far in to the middle of the track coming down the hill, hit the pavement sealer area (SLICK AS ICE in the rain!) and it proceeded to snap my car to the inside metal barrier of the track...." The impact forced the passenger shock tower in some 4" and broke a vital engine arm component and left the team out of the points race on Saturday. After heavy determination and brilliant work from Cory, Howie, Paul and Brian, the team found a frame shop in the village of the Glen, had the car pulled out and the new engine arm installed just in the nick of time to make the starting grid for Sunday's point race!!! You would have had to been there to see this recovery! Well, since Team MAM/VBD didn't get a proper qualifier on Saturday, they were forced to start at the back of the pack for Sunday. No problem right? WRONG! POURING down rain again and at that point it was too tough to make the push to the front of the pack. 4 heavy impacts on other racecars forced race control to end the race at 12 minutes in from the green flag and we finished 3rd in class. After a review of the BMW Series rulebook, the officials had decided that since the race did not meet 50% of its run time under green flag condition, NO points were awarded to any of the teams. SO, the team is prepping the car and is heading off to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL on November 14-16 to settle the score and aim for the championship title! Stay tuned.....

08.02.08 -- Race Report: BMW Series 07/25/08 Summit Point 2 Races net 2 Wins!
07.28.08 -- (07/28/08) Greg Shaffer, owner of Mid Atlantic Motorwerkes / VBD Graphics in Harrisonburg, VA, takes top honors in the heavily contested D-Modified class this past weekend at Summit Point! Greg also finished 3rd overall each day behind 2 very fast C-Mod cars driven by Chuck Stickly and Barry Battle. Greg took to the track on the Saturday morning qualifier and left nothing on the table, turning his fastest offiicial lap time ever (1:20.093) at the very technical 2 mile road course in WV. "Summit Point is my home track and i have trained, raced and worked there as an instructor for over 10 years now... Bimmerworld gave us the right stuff we needed to make the E36 BMW stay at the front of the pack in DM and we cannot thank James Clay (owner of Bimmerworld in Dublin, VA) enough for his excellent technical support over the weekend while tuning in a new JRZ suspension on the car" Shaffer said. Once again, hats off to the superb local crew based in Harrisonburg of Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack, Paul Hansen and Brian Bass. Special thanks to all of the local customers and friends who made the trek up on Saturday to support the team! Next major race in the BMW is the Octoberfest event at Watkins Glen. The Tire Rack BMW CCA Race Series makes their annual stop at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WV. Be sure to check out "motorsport page" for a few minutes of in-car race video!

Thanks once again to crew members Cory Bradburn, Howie Dunbrack and Paul Hansen for making the trek! This latest sweep of victories puts Team MAM/VBD firmly in the #1 points position for the North American BMW Series!! Next stop HOME TURF at Summit Point Raceway on July 25-27th.
